Although Among Us surfaced way back in 2018, it wasn’t really on many people’s radars until the pandemic had us all sat indoors twiddling our thumbs and scouring YouTube for entertainment. The murder-mystery style concept clearly had appeal with almost half a billion people purportedly playing it last November. The rise in recent popularity has actually stopped the developers in their tracks. InnerSloth was working towards a sequel for the game but have since decided to focus on improving the original for its nelly found fan-base.

As for now, the game is available for PC, iOS, Android, and Switch, with an Xbox port on the way sometime this year.

So as of March 31st Among Us’ is dropping a new Airship map as part of a free update. It will be the game’s biggest map to date and innerSloth are pretty excited about it along with the rest of us. The new map will have fresh tasks and players will now be able to select where they begin their deduction or rampage from.

A trailer was released to tease us all during last December’s Game Awards. It is well worth a sneak-peek if you haven’t seen it already just to get a preview of the new Airship map on the horizon.

As Jay Peters reports at theverge; InnerSloth is also going to be trialing a “preliminary” account system as part of the new update. The aim of which is to try to help moderate the game itself/ Talk of accounts has been floating around for a while now, so it is no surprise that the developers are looking to implement them alongside their biggest map update. InnerSloth has discussed the subject in past blog posts.

“A proper moderation system is one that is extremely difficult and time-consuming,” the studio said. “It is not as easy as just having a ‘report’ button and having an algorithm ban someone after a certain number of reports.”

Finally, perhaps most the most important thing is there will be new free hats in the update, as to InnerSloth. However, if you’ve been playing it for a long time, it’ll be probably hard to change your favorite.

So be it the hats or maps that keep you coming back to the server, it’s great that InnerSloth is putting in the hours, and the popularity of Among Us looks set to continue to grow.
