Ever since coffee-pods revolutionized the coffee machine, we have had an influx of pod-based gadgets bombard us. You can get your hands on a huge variety of pod-based treats from pod juices, to pod tortillas. And it doesn’t stop there either. With the rise of VC and Kickstarter techs, we have seen pod lipsticks and cookies even pod weed and pod cocktails. Now, as reported by Gizmodo, at the hands of a new device dubbed the ColdSnap you can get your hands on pods that will give you soft-serve ice cream on demand!

The pods have ingredients concealed within that transform inside the device in almost an instant. The company behind it has a range of frozen snacks in mind, which include yogurts, smoothies, and frozen coffee too. With the intention of hitting the health food market selling healthy frozen fruit-based smoothies.

Though their main focus is on the ice-cream front they have also set their sights on slushies as well as frozen cocktails for the adults. Which could prove very popular if they decided to advertise it carefully.

The main audience for the device is families but the company also aims at companies that may benefit from its business version. IF a company wants to offer employers a perk or just sell some ice cream in a lobby or cafeteria, the machine will do great. Because who wouldn’t want free ice cream during the lunch break?

There are a few caveats they might want to consider as Jacob Kastrenakes explored in his article for theverge. Ice cream is a pretty widely available product in most areas year-round. It is also easily stored, even without a freezer most fridges have a compartment of some form sizeable enough for a tub of your favorite.

Being as it can be readily purchased the demographic for those who want a dedicated ice cream machine is probably pretty slim. That said there is a place in this world for pod-based gadgets even if it is short-lived. For some, the ingenuity may just make it a must-have. Especially for those who like to follow trends or just show-off!

Wrapping up

The price of the machine is still unknown but the shipping dates are confirmed at the second quarter of 2021. Just keep in mind that the machine is quite large, so you will need some free counter space set aside.

Even though many companies still hope pod-based food becomes popular, throughout the years it hasn’t been on demand much.

Sometimes these things are just a passing craze as seen with Juicero who unfortunately fizzled out just shy of a year after production. Many of these novel pod-based ideas don’t even make it off of the Kickstarter platform and into reality. That was sadly the case for Flatev, with its tortilla in a pod dream.

In the year 2017 LG explored pod-based ice cream, frozen yogurt, custard, sorbet, gelato, and other frozen stuff in 2019. So ColdSnap isn’t exactly original with their plans so much as jumping on the bandwagon.

ColdSnap may not fare any better than some of the pod start-ups that have come before them but with many of us spending more time in the comfort of our own homes who knows?
