In 2019 Google mentioned that the company is moving directly on the eco path. And by 2022 they’ve planned to replace all materials they use for gadgets with recycled materials. All Made by Google gadgets including Pixel phones, Pixelbooks, Google Home speakers, Nest devices, and accessories will be made of recycled materials.

The Verge reported that the company put a tick in its eco-list because all-new Pixel and Nest products are made of recycled material as Google sustainability systems architect David Bourne notices. To be more clear these products contain recycled materials and are not totally made of them.

If you believe Google, well I totally believe him, the back panel of the Pixel 5 is made with 100 percent recycled aluminum, and the new Nest Audio has 70 percent recycled plastic. Also, the new model of Nest Thermostat has a recycled part too, it is a panel you use to attach it to the wall. Google uses post-consumer recycled plastic to produce that thing.

“Google’s focus on incorporating recycled materials in our hardware design not only supports our sustainability commitments but also enables our supply chain partners to confidently invest in and develop these types of materials so that the wider consumer electronics industry can use them too,” Bourne said in a statement.

In addition, Google mentioned in September that it aims to diminish carbon energy usage in its operation to a total zero by 2030. The company also acquired enough carbon offsets to cancel out the company’s carbon dioxide emissions since its founding in 1998.

Other good news: Google plans to use recycled or renewable material in at least 50 percent of all plastic it is using for its hardware by 2025. Google plans to change its packaging too, making it 100 percent plastic-free and 100 percent recyclable.
