The Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra are the most innovative smartphones on the market at the moment. They have a great advantage over other companies that were planning to demonstrate their inventions at the MWC show, which was totally canceled because of the coronavirus. Samsung has a weighty dominance because they’ve shown every piece of their innovations. The engineers have managed to pull out the maximum from the smartphone’s construction.

Design and visual aspects

Smartphones look wonderful, as always, and are very polished, as always. The pale colors bring a feeling of calm and harmony, while the arcobaleno visual effect does not disturb the eyes with a venom changing tint. The new Galaxy line is divided into three rungs on the ladder; we’ve got 6.2 inches for the S20, 6.7 inches for the S20+, and the bigger brother S20 Ultra has 6.9 inches. Nice. God bless the designers who managed to get rid of that eyebrow; instead, we have a small ink spot on the top of the screen that acts as a minuscule camera hole. Perfectionists can take a double shot of some sedatives, and I understand their feelings.

We have a Dynamic Amoled x2, which is a mix of the HDR10+ and 120Hz, making you scrolling over the screen as smooth as petting a cat. But remember that, by default, you will have 60Hz and you must change it in your settings to get 120Hz. It was a great surprise that engineers didn’t omit the waterproofness, but up to 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes isn’t much.

Hardware and inner parts

Using the same ladder idea we can measure the battery storage, and the pattern shows that new optimizations require more energy. It would be a pity to lose a perfect shot of the northern lights because of an empty battery. The S20 gets 4000mAh, the S20+ has  4500mAh, and the S20 Ultra packs 5000mAh.Samsung, as the last samurai, was fighting until the end but in newer models, there will be only a USB-C charging point, and for headphones too. The generation of the 3.5mm jack plug dynasty is almost over, ‘the great wall’ has fallen.

Time we return to our sliding scale ladder. The memory storage differs a lot, and thankfully they did leave a possibility to insert a microSD of up to 1TB – my new TikTok ideas and videos will find a comfortable place there. The Galaxy S20 will have 12GB RAM (LPDDR5) with 128GB internal storage, the S20+ gets 12GB RAM (LPDDR5) with 3 possible variants of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB of internal storage, and the price will differ as usual. These specs are available for 5G models, and for LTE models the storage will not have the alternatives, but rather be on the level of 8GB RAM with 128GB internal storage for both phones. It looks radical but effective. The Ultra version will have both 5G and LTE, and the capacity of the storage is different for three variants: 12GB RAM with 128GB and 256GB and 16GB RAM 512GB. Again and again and again, we have seen it before. Yeah, it is wonderful that our phones are smarter than calculators, but there is nothing new about it.

Cameras and everything about them

Perhaps the main progress the engineers are making is on cameras. We are living in the era of memories, experiences, accessibility, and double cappuccinos with soya milk. As a result, cameras are inalienable things, it is like keeping a tissue in your bag; you never know when you’re going to need it. A camera – it is a manner to communicate, the instrument to stay in touch with society. The first two models come with the same 10MP selfie camera and the Galaxy Ultra has a 40MP one. The more, the better; the Ultra is not just a word to show off.  Turning the phone upside down, we can see the rectangular plate with visual and quantity difference in cameras. The S20 has a triple set of cameras: 12MP ultra-wide camera, 12MP wide-angle, 64MP telephoto camera, which are more than enough to make a photoshoot for your cat on Instagram. When the cat is too attractive and you want to create a 3D model of it, with the S20+ you will have a DepthVision camera and the same three cameras as in the S20 model.

The real magic comes with the Galaxy S20 Ultra. It has the same set of cameras but with stark specs. The first camera has nothing new but 12MP ultra-wide. The second camera was designed in cooperation with Xiaomi, and thanks to the team at Samsung, they have got their own 108MP wide-angle camera. A 48MP telephoto and DepthVision camera are present too. Look at the charismatic dog in sunglasses over there. But it is too far from me *sad dog noises*. Easily fixed, because in the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra you will get 100x super-resolution zoom. Ouch… it’s too hot, be careful.
