Microsoft has announced that 200 million copies of Minecraft have now been sold to date, which means it’s managed to outrun GTA V with 120 million copies sold around the world, in the international sales race. Three things you need to know about Minecraft: it’s simple, it’s creative, and it’s an indestructible classic. The Verge has even noticed that 126 million people are playing the game every month.

Minecraft’s popularity has significantly increased since the first Minecraft alpha build was originally released 11 years ago. We can chart Minecraft’s evolution through the years, beginning from the starting point of the launching players’ career on YouTube and ending as an iconic masterpiece.

Thanks to Mojang and Microsoft’s mutual work, Minecraft has understood it couldn’t ever lose the tempo, and with confident steps, it moved forwards and bounced over every obstacle. We remind you that, not so long ago, Minecraft topped 100 million sales in 2016.

Microsoft has made the calculated and outstanding move to get hands-on with Minecraft, spending $2.5 billion for it six years ago. This act was a promising gesture for Minecraft developers and Microsoft itself.
