Besides that, we’ll also talk about the most prominent Apple devices of 2018. What will change and what won’t? What are the brand new features we’ll see? Find out in our guide below.
The Products and Updates Apple Delivered in 2018
2018 was a great year for Apple. Among other things, they’ve introduced the refreshed MacBook Air and Mac mini. The new Air models got a USB-C input, Retina Display, True Tone, better speakers, and Apple’s latest keyboard and trackpad, while for the Mac mini — more RAM; more I/O options; much faster graphics.
On top of that, Apple released the HomePod in February — a smart speaker that makes Apple Music sound great and does a decent job of controlling HomeKit-enabled devices. Back in March, the latest iPad was unveiled with a 9.7-inch display and Apple Pencil capabilities, while in May, they introduced AirPlay 2 as well as an Apple Watch Pride band.
June saw Apple show off iOS 12 and later on address users’ complaints about it. The new operating system basically made old products feel like new again. There were no more messy notifications or problems with maps. The updated release got more stability, parental controls, improved photo search, and other updates.
At the end of July, the Apple company announced its latest MacBook Pro with Touch Bar models and finally, in September, Tim Cook (Apple Inc’s CEO) took to the stage to introduce the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and Apple Watch Series 4. Among other updates, the new iPhones got upgraded cameras, which, sadly for Apple fans, still fell behind Samsung’s S9 and S10 and Huawei’s P20 and P30 Pro cameras.
November was time for Apple to officially release its new iPad Pro, while December was for the introduction of the long-awaited clear case for the iPhone XR and its 18W power adapter as a standalone purchase. The new watch OS 5.1.2 was officially introduced to the public the same month.
With all that being said, it’s time to take a look at what’s to be expected from Apple in 2019. We’ve reviewed rumors, leaks, and news around new product sizes, displays, cameras, and other features. Let’s dive in!
The Main Rumors and Leaks Surrounding the iPhone 11
In this part we’ll find out what’s in store for the new iPhone in 2019. The Apple iPhone’s launch event is penciled in for September 11th or 12th and it’s likely we are going to see three new iPhones, according to reports from The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg.
iPhone 11 Release Date
The new models are expected to debut in September, when the main Apple event will take place. According to the leaks, the date is somewhere between the 9th and 11th. The products would likely go on preorder a few days later and go on general sale at the end of that month.
iPhone 11 Price
None of the prices for the upcoming models were confirmed by Apple, but we estimate that the new iPhone 11 would cost you from $600 to $1,149 (the most expensive iPhone XS Max started at this price and there is no reason to assume Apple would go any lower than that). If it’s anything like 2018’s iPhone lineup, the prices will be at the higher end.
iPhone 11 Cameras
The iPhone cameras are decent, but not the best ones on the market. So, there are high hopes for the iPhone’s 11 cameras with them expected to be, if not better, then at least on a par with the Pixel 3 or Huawei P30 Pro.
For the first time, the iPhone XS and XS Max successors will offer ultra-wide angle shots thanks to a new triple-lens camera. Looking at the leaks, Apple has planned a camera array with three lenses for one, if not more, of the upcoming iPhone models that it’ll release in 2019. Not only will they improve the iPhone’s augmented-reality capabilities, but also offer advanced 3D sensing and use stereoscopic vision. It is expected that only the iPhone XS iPhone XS Max’s successors will add a 3D lens, while iPhone XR’s successors will have only two rear cameras. There are also leaks about a special dark coating to hide the cameras on the back of the new phones. Regarding the front camera, it’s expected to be bumped to 12 megapixels.
iPhone 11 Size And Display
So say rumors, Apple’s 2019 revamped iPhones will be the same size or a bit thicker than its current iPhones. Yet, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR successors will have OLED models (XS and XS Max successors) and an LCD display (XR successor). The OLED screens typically offer deeper blacks and bolder colors.
iPhone 11 Design and Colors
Rumors suggest the next-generation 6.5-inch and 5.8-inch OLED iPhones won’t change in their design much in 2019. Yet, a small and affordable iPhone SE that’ll be followed by an iPhone SE 2 is likely to adjust color options from silver, gold, Space Grey, and Rose Gold to silver, gold, and Space Grey only. Otherwise, the design of other models will be practically the same with just small physical changes. According to recent reports, the new iPhones will get a square-shaped zone housing the three camera lenses in a triangular shape. Regarding colors, we can expect new lavender, green, blue, and coral shades.
iPhone 11 Hardware And iOS
The rumors around new iOS 13 features are already circulating around the net. The beta public version is already available, while a final iOS 13 will arrive in September this year. One of the best features is a Dark Mode, that’ll allow users to invert those bright, white-screen backgrounds. The new QuickPath swipe keyboard is also a significant addition that’ll allow you to simply swipe to type. It’s already being called a feature that’ll revolutionize typing. Basically, it enables you to swipe from one letter to another without removing your finger from the keyboard to enter a word.
Also, iOS 13 is going to offer a completely upgraded Reminders app, maps updates, new Memoji customization, new photo and video editing features, and more. The new A13 chip should bring performance and efficiency improvements, given the fact that the A12 is one of the most capable mobile chips on the market.
iPhone 11’s Other Cool Features
Rumors also include the switch from lightning to USB-C ports, an A13 chip along with faster LTE and WiFi, and bigger batteries (the battery life will reportedly grow by between 20% and 25%). There are claims that new iPhones are to have a fast-charger included – now the company requires the purchase of its $29, 18-watt charger to take advantage of the fast charging feature. Other than that, the 2019 iPhones are expected to wirelessly charge other devices like AirPods, due to its new bilateral, wireless charging feature.
On top of that, Apple is set to bring in a Bluetooth audio output for the iPhone’s next incarnation. You’re going to be able to beam across your tunes to your friends or partner straight from your device. As a matter of fact, this is already built into some of the smartphones Samsung produces.
Regarding storage, Apple’s follow-up to the iPhone XR, which has 3GB of RAM, is expected to include an upgraded 4GB of RAM.
The long-awaited iPhones of 2019 are already creating a buzz and drawing a massive amount of public attention. From what we know, they’re going to have: upgraded cameras; better displays; the ability to stream Bluetooth audio to two devices simultaneously; a feature that’ll allow users to charge other devices; and other great features that’ll make the user experience better.
