One of the biggest Bitcoin owners drowned last Wednesday, June 23 in Playa Hermosa, in Costa Rica. The local news paper CRHoy wrote: “The 41-year-old Pole drowned on June 23 when he went for a swim at Hermos Beach in Puntarenas”. The emergency report was received by the Costa Rican Red Cross (CRC) at around 7:20 am Paramedics arrived at the site and found the man with no vital signs.

Mircea was the most conservative proponent of bitcoin, objected to any protocol changes. He defended decentralization and threatened to crash the market by selling 1 million BTC (although perhaps this is just a threat and he does not have so much BTC) if the developers do not follow the original idea.

In a 2011 article, he wrote: “BTC is now the most important project of humanity.” Then 1 BTC was worth less than $ 10.

Back in 2013, Popescu sold the SatoshiDice project for 125,000 BTC, maintained the MPEx exchange for 2 years, took responsibility for hacking The DAO, which led to the loss of 3.6 million ETH. It is also reported that the Popescu family does not have access to his funds and his BTC may disappear from the market forever.

Pete Rizzo, the editor of Bitcoin Magazine wrote a thread on Twitter curating some of Popescu’s quotes about Bitcoin. Rizzio also mentioned that Popescu frequently wrote in his blog, but the journalist warns people that sometimes posts can include nudity, racist and sexist content.
