Deadline recently revealed that Neil Druckmann, the acting creative and executive producer for The Last of Us has confirmed casting for HBO’s latest TV venture. In the anticipated, high-profile adaptation of the critically acclaimed Sony Playstation game, Joel will be played by none other than The Mandalorian himself, Pedro Pascal.

As Jay Peters spotted in his article for theverge, this was announced just a few hours after the casting for Ellie was confirmed as Bella Ramsey.

So it appears we will be treated to two ex Game of Thrones favorites playing leading roles in the Naughty Dog storyline. Bella Ramsey rallied the masses when she played fan-favorite Lyanna Mormont ruling over Bear island at such a young age. In this HBO adaptation, she will be starring as Joel’s surrogate daughter as he travels a pandemic landscape.

Pascal also had a huge fan-base when he played the short-lived role of the Red Viper of Dorne, Oberyn Martell. Most recently we have seen him starring in Disney +’s The Mandalorian. The news also came just after we heard that his co-star Gina Carano was getting the ax from LucasFilms.

The first The Last of Us game was mostly dedicated to Joel and Ellie’s relationship, and there is a high chance that the initial run of the show will keep the focus on the two characters as well. Besides Pascal and Ramsey, the series already has some other notable talent on board — Craig Mazin, famous from the Chernobyl series is set to be a writer and executive producer, while Kantemir Balagov, who directed indie WWII drama Beanpole, is set to direct the pilot episode.
