The Witcher. The book, the game, or Netflix adaptation; which is better?

The outgoing year decided to surprise us with a rising star that caught up has become equal in hype to Game of Thrones. I am talking about the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher. What you should know about this ambitious project: the story is based on books written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The place of Geralt is taken by a man whose mustache for 3 million dollars are no longer a surprise, Henry Cavill, aka the Man of Steel, decided to try for himself the image of a white-haired, handsome man with a sarcastic sense of humor, whose strong charisma and formidable facial expressions bring fear to every demonic creature.

Quick review, no spoilers

As fast as a Ferrari, the TV show caught up with its predecessor – Game of Thrones. This is indeed true because the audience’s ratings are just off the scale; 93% on Rotten Tomatoes in favor of The Witcher. What is the core reason for such a breakthrough?

The brilliantly cast is 50% of the success and +1000 karma points. Henry Cavill, as a missing link, perfectly completes the picture of the puzzle. The role of Geralt in The Witcher is like the Man of Steel, only a medieval adaptation. I would argue who is more real, Henry Cavill himself or monster hunter Geralt of Rivia? A brave warrior, a monster-catching mercenary, is looking for the princess-in-exile Ciri, played by Freya Allan. According to the canons, our protagonist encounters adventures that look like a dance with death: elegant and dangerous.

But honestly, I have a feeling that I’m in the middle of the Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies. A film adaptation of The Witcher is enveloped in a cloud of discussion and skepticism from the side of original series book fans, while people who are not familiar with The Witcher’s lore are more likely to find the series very cool, because it took a lot of money to create such a detailed and high-quality picture. Amazed players can support their colleagues, because there are a lot of events in the TV show which could be very interesting.

The sword is in the scabbard

The adaptation of The Witcher has fulfilled its main role – it won its audience, and the franchise of  The Witcher has acquired a new one at the same time. The production design does look impressive, the show gets brutal at times, but viewers are already used to it. Geralt is doing well with humor, and he definitely doesn’t need a stand-up workshop. The adaptation has ended the outgoing decade wit record results.

This project is very ambitious and it allowed Netflix to announce the continuation of the series in November. I hope the level they have achieved in such a short period of time will be multiplied. Here we go again, our task is to wait and express only positive energy to gain a positive result 🙂
