Do you believe in mobile gaming?

The lack of a PC or console is no argument to get upset about when you don’t know how to play videogames. Look in your hands if you have a smartphone there – my congratulations, you can become a mobile video gamer. Before Rovio released Angry Birds in 2009, we used to think that smartphones existed only for keeping connected with other people. We literally underestimated the hardware under the jacket of the phone. When we dive into the statistics, 3.5 billion people own at least one smartphone today, which means 3.5 billion people own their own small gaming platform without barely realizing that.

Smartphones have got a pretty simple OS hierarchy because there are only two of them: Android and iOS. That’s why our list of recommended games will be divided into two parts.

If you’re an Android user, you’re welcome to try these titles out. But our recommendation is to take some food and water before you start because some games can be very addictive.

Fortnite

Free to play

Fortnite is an online video game developed by Epic Games and released in 2017. The dynamic rhythm of the game will never leave you bored – stressful yes, but never bored. It’s a mobile shooter in a battle royale format where you have to play single or in a team and kick all your foes out of the map, meaning to kill ‘em all. This fast-paced game can become a real hobby. However, playing the game on your phone needs some training and patience. Of course, you have the optional offer to buy a controller extension to make the adaptation much easier.

Monument Valley

$3.99

Monument Valley is an indie puzzle game developed and published by Ustwo Games. Your adventures will be a real labyrinth created by optical illusions. You’ll lead the princess Ida and manipulate your surroundings to construct the way out of the near-impossible mazes. The interaction with hidden paths leans on your logical and not standard thinking. It’s a nice thing to exercise your brain and refill your aesthetics jar because the game is damn pretty.

Minecraft

$6.99

Minecraft is an iconic sandbox video game developed by Mojang Studios. Yet, times have changed. 11 years ago, it was a challenge to find a working Minecraft version but today it’s a tough task to find a person who doesn’t know what it is. That’s not a surprise, because in May 2020 it was reported that there have been 200 million copies sold around the world.

In Minecraft, you have to survive in the procedurally-generated 3D world and to craft a lot of different goods that will help you soothe your loneliness in that world. If you think that it’s boring, you can always join the co-op mode of the game and play with your friends.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Free to play

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a mobile MOBA game that is a shrunken version of Dota 2, or League of Legends. There are two teams, five players in each, who are fighting to reach the enemy base. There are a lot of characters with unique abilities who are responsible for their role: tank, assassin, magician, support, and the forest player. Your gaming style depends on a character you choose and his role. Actually, the game is pretty cool; you can develop your teamwork skills and reactions. But those who used to play Dota 2 or LoL will find it pretty unusual to change habits and learn something so familiar but so awkward in its mechanics.

Hearthstone

Free to play

Hearthstone is a free-to-play online digital card game released and developed by Blizzard Entertainment. The game is soaked with World of Warcraft references and characters, but you shouldn’t worry, because both games are not connected at all. In comparison with Fortnite, Hearthstone is a one-tap game with extremely easy mechanics. The game is a must-have for strategy addicts.

Battle Chasers: Night War

$4.99

Battle Chasers: Night War is a mobile RPG game developed by Airship Syndicate. This game is like a strong shot of espresso. The game is set in a magical world where you’ll explore dungeons and fight against dungeon creatures using special abilities. Before entering the dungeon, players can set the difficulty level so if your character is not well-trained, you can set the easiest level and complete the challenge.

The game looks wonderful and is smooth to play. Every battle scene is polished and nice to watch.

Sky: Children of the Light

Free to play

Sky: Children of the Light is an indie adventure game developed by Thatgamecompany, which is responsible for The Journey. To my surprise, Sky’s gameplay looks so familiar to the Journey’s that I mistakenly took it for the mobile version of the second. In Sky, your ability to fly depends on the cape and not on the scarf, these are two different things. Sky engages players not with majestic gameplay but with stunning graphics, meditative music, and relaxing gameplay. It’s a piece of digital satisfaction.

Alto’s Odyssey

Free to play

Alto’s Odyssey is a drug in the world of gaming. The game exists in the genre of an endless runner, though the run has to end when you fall off the snowboard. The mechanics of the game is pretty simple – tap when you need to leap the obstacle, or the granny with a bunch of lamas. When you hold your finger on the screen, the character makes a backflip and that gives you some points. You can also catch coins during the game and use them in an in-game store to upgrade your character.

The game has a soft palate landscape and smooth and relaxing ambient music that’s playing in the background. A well-packed kit to get rid of the stress.

Asphalt 9: Legends

Free to play

Asphalt 9: Legends is the offspring of the iconic Asphalt series developed by Gameloft Barcelona. I used to play this game on my Sony Ericsson k320i and it’s hot as hell. Gorgeous cars, the sense of speed, challenging competitors; all these features are mixed into one game. Though with years, the game has evolved into something more complicated. It currently has 105 cars of different classes and rarity ratings. You can customize your car in an editor cabinet. Also, players can team-up into a club and score reputation points to get a reward.

Brawl Stars

Free to play

You don’t need to think twice about who is the developer of Brawl Stars, it’s Supercell — the father company of Clash of Clans and Clash Royale. These games have very similar animation that boosts their recognition. Brawl Stars is an online multiplayer with some MOBA elements. The game has several modes so you’ll not get bored only killing your enemies. There’s a classic shooting mode, the mode where you need to seek crystals, a heist mode where you need to rob the opponent, and a bounty hunter mode where you need to kill a specific opponent.

Genshin Impact

Free to play

Genshin Impact is an action role-playing child from miHoYo, also known for Honkai Impact 3. If you’re a fan of gacha game mechanics, this game is a top choice. The game leaves you in an open world where you have to do common things like jumping, running, seeking, and swimming. You can join the game as one of 24 playable characters. These characters will be available after finishing some pieces of the plot. Each character has got two unique combat skills: regular and special.

Legends of Runeterra

Free to play

Legends of Runeterra is a card game from League of Legends developers, Riot Games. The game resembles Hearthstone, where you have to build your decks, collect cards with characters, and fight against competitors. The scheme is the same as in Blizzard’s game: pick a champion, arrange the cards in a strategic field, and defeat the enemy. The game looks visually wonderful with colorful characters and the animation is admirable.

Pokemon Go

Free to Play

I remember the period when Pokemon Go was released. Our news feeds were filled with conspiracy theories that Pokemon Go collects users data while crowds of people were rushing around to find the rarest pokemon — Mew. Pokemon Go is an AR mobile game that uses your live geolocation to randomly put Pokemon on the map. You’re moving in the real-world while your avatar is moving within a virtual map. Unlike in anime where heroes are fighting with Pokemon to catch them in a Pokeball, when you notice the Pokemon, you swipe up to catch it. You can lose the duel due to many factors: the Pokémon’s catch rate, the timing, and the type of PokéBall used.

PUBG Mobile

Free to play

PUBG Mobile is an online battle royale game developed by PUBG Corporation. You’re already aware of what the royale battle format is like, but I’ll remind you. 100 players are fighting on one map so that only one player will survive the deathmatch. You can join several battle modes and play solo, duo, or in a small team of up to four people. By the way, PUBG is the father of this player’s parachuting trend.

Roblox

Free to play

I don’t know how, but it’s a fact that Roblox is one of the most popular games in the world right now. Roblox occupies the sandbox genre. Unlike Minecraft, Roblox has got a lot of modes, different servers, and self-created maps. Enthusiasts are creating those maps faster than my printer makes a copy. Other players can download those materials or start creating their own.

Soul Knight

Free to play

Soul Knight is a role play title in a rogue-lite genre developed by ChillyRoom. This game is a synonym for the word challenge. There’s no plot in this game, but you don’t need it. You start the game as a common knight in a room full of other characters that you can purchase for points you earn in dungeons. When you enter the first dungeon, it’ll count like this 1-1, where 1 is a dungeon and the other 1 is for level. To win the game you need to overcome five dungeons and five levels in each.

Characters have got one unique ability, but you can also use those weapons you find in dungeons.

Candy Crush

Free to play

This game could open the list of “TOP SUBWAY GAMES” because almost every third person is playing Candy Crush. Candy Crush Saga is a free-to-play match-three puzzle video game released by King. As a typical representative of match-three games, you have to match three candies in a row with the same color. Matched candies disappear into eternity and new candies fall from above to fill empty spaces. To finish the match, you need to score the number of points written in the quest. Quests can differ from level to level.

Wordscapes

Free to play

Wordscapes is a word puzzle video game created by the American studio PeopleFun. There’s a circle with different words in bubbles and your task is to look at an empty field and find every word you can make with these letters. Test your vocabulary level and solve all puzzles in the game.

Among Us

Free to play

Among Us is a shooting star of 2020. The game was developed by InnerSloth and released in 2018. It has been the underdog for almost two years, but the miracle appeared for the studio and the game is number one among indie games in 2020. Among Us is a social deduction game where you have to find a wolf in a herd of sheep. The game starts in a lobby where up to ten users connect to the server. The creator of the server adjusts the parameters of the match. In settings, the creator can set the number of imposters. When the game starts, crewmates complete some quests to win the round or find the imposter.

This game comes highly recommended. You’ll like it.
